AKB first sale to Sweden
Dedicated surfer; Tony Kammari of Sweden is the first person in Europe to own their AKB book pack. During the book sale transaction and getting to know Tony slightly, i gained admiration for his bravery and dedication to the ocean. Given that he surfs the waters of Sweden all year round is just unfathomable coming from Byron Bay. And for this reason i’m super stoked he purchased our books for his kids.
AKB donate books to Bali schools…
Aloha good folk
AKB is taking the initiative to give the best gift we know, to the poor kids of Bali. Being the surfing epicentre of the world, we wish to stoke out some local kids with our new title Surf Safari.
WARNING – delay’s on your book order (12 days max/ 20-30th Sept 2011) can be expected, as surfing, practicing yoga and donating AKB to Balinese schools takes priority. I appreciate your support, patience and look forward to inspiring your child through AKB as soon as i arrive home.
Networking at Byron Bay Writers Festival
I (Author – Chad Kolcze), attended The Byron Bay Writers Festival on the weekend. Whilst circulating the new AKB title – Surf Safari to media prospects, I also helped celebrate, congratulate and featured in a book titled – One Got Past The Keeper. This book is a great read for expecting dads…

As Byron Bay Writers Festival kicks off in town, it was time to creatively market the new books.

Advance copies of the 2nd Edition Skate Session and new Surf Safari books have landed in front of our eager eyes and all looks up to scratch as far as we can tell… and over here everything looks… Awesome!! Yep! These 40 page storybooks are hardbound with a beautiful imagewrap cover and they are looking really nice.
Pre-order your copies to get amongst the madness of Maiso, Carlie and Strider as they shred the house to bits whilst the humans are out in the world doing human things.
AKB secures legendary filmmaker to make doco…
Active Kids Books are super STOKED to have the crafty talents of one legendary filmmaker and pro surfer; Johnny Abbeg, to collaborate on the making of a documentary about our journey. The trials and tribulations of six years in development and the desire to put SPORT on the book shelves for young people, AKB has a heart felt story to share.

Poetry is a positive way to vent…
Unlike many stressed out business managers, who roll their eyes and tap their pens during board meetings. At AKB we love our board meeting. Unfortunately, today our board meeting was abruptly cut short and a little sadness was cast over the creators. Excited about Barcodes…
AKB is designing its own creative barcode for its upcoming titles. Its this creative process that excites us and makes the whole independent book publishing a worthy process.
There are many cool examples of barcode modifications on the web. The umbrella example here is the tip of the ice-burge.

Final draft complete…
The development of our new title SURF SAFARI is nearing completion. The final drafts; Surf Safari & Skate Session (2nd ed.) were sent last night for formatting and layout. Given that the printers take 6-8wks, we should have books ready in a few months from now!
